UPDATE: Mudslide blocks road near Index

Update at 12:55 a.m.: | The sheriff’s office says one lane is now open and a few residents are still without power.

Original post:| A mudslide overnight has blocked a road near Index, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said this morning.

The sheriff’s office received word around midnight that a mudslide had blocked Mount Index River Road between the 50300 and 51500 blocks. Residents in the area also reported power outages, the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office, county’s Department of Emergency Management (DEM), Index Fire District 28 and Snohomish County Public Utility District (PUD) all responded. DEM coordinated a reverse 911 call around 4:30 a.m. alerting residents of the slide and asking them to avoid the area.

Power to about 300 PUD customers was out from about 9 p.m. Tuesday to 6:30 this morning.

No injuries have been reported.
