SPANAWAY — A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a deputy was shot and wounded when he responded to a commercial storage unit in Spanaway after reports that a man was threatening to kill people.
Spokesman Ed Troyer says deputies returned fire after the man shot at them Tuesday afternoon but are not sure whether he was hit. The man is believed to be heavily armed. SWAT officers have arrived at the scene.
The News Tribune reports that Troyer says the deputy was hit in the arm and was taken to a hospital. The spokesman says the injury did not appear life-threatening. The deputy was not identified.
ORIGINAL POST | A sheriff’s deputy for Pierce County was shot in the arm at about 4:30 p.m. today, according to KING5.
The deputy is headed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Some Twitter reports say the deputy was “grazed” by a bullet.
According to KING5, the shooting was near 217th and Mountain Highway.
