WENATCHEE — The Washington State Patrol says a Wenatchee police officer who was injured in a fatal confrontation with a drug suspect was treated at a hospital and released.
The Wenatchee World reports the officer may have been dragged by the suspect’s SUV while trying to arrest the driver Thursday afternoon in the drive-through lane of a fast-food restaurant.
The uniformed officer had pulled over the suspect after an undercover drug deal by members of the Columbia River Drug Task Force.
Trooper Darren Wright said the officer fired during a struggle with the suspect, and the 43-year-old Wenatchee man died at the scene. His SUV hit a pickup truck in the parking lot, but no one else was injured.
The officer was treated at Central Washington Hospital.
