All-blue license plate debuts for WWU Viking fans

Western's new vehicle license plate

The Cougs have them. The Huskies have them. Now, the Vikings are getting them, too.

Western Washington University is the third Washington public university to redesign its vehicle license plate, embracing a solid color. It is ditching the Mount Rainier motif in favor of an all-blue plate with green lettering and the horned head of a Viking on the left-hand side.

Washington State University introduced a solid red plate in January 2012, and last year the University of Washington came out with a solid purple plate. Every time a plate is sold, the represented university receives $28 to use for college scholarships.

Like the other schools, WWU had to have its design reviewed for compatibility with traffic cameras, a process that took several years.

The plate can be purchased by completing the license plate application on the DOL website and either taking the form to a DOL office, or mailing it to Vehicle Licensing, P.O. Box 9909, Olympia, WA 98057-8500.
