Ex-trooper held on $1 million bail in rape case

The Associated Press

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Former Washington State Patrol Lt. Kenneth S. Garrison appeared in court Friday in Vancouver and was ordered held for investigation of rape, with bail set at $1 million.

The 50-year-old Vancouver man is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 5 in Clark County Superior Court. He was arrested Wednesday at a Portland motel.

The Columbian newspaper reports Garrison appeared in court with Vancouver lawyer Barry Brandenburg, who said it remains to be determined if he’ll represent Garrison.

Garrison resigned from the State Patrol in December and retired Monday from his position as a lieutenant colonel in the Washington Army National Guard.

In the Patrol, Garrison was responsible for supervising troopers in the Southwest Washington district, headquartered in Vancouver.
