Fatal crash on Highway 2 near Snohomish

Corrected version:

SNOHOMISH  (AP) — The driver of a car has been killed in a collision with a pickup on Highway 2 near Snohomish.

The Washington State Patrol says the pickup crossed the center line and hit the car head-on about 5 a.m. Monday near the intersection with Highway 9.

The driver of the car died at the scene and the pickup driver was taken to an Everett hospital in serious condition.

Trooper Keith Leary tells KOMO  investigators are looking into the cause of the crash but there was heavy frost on the ground and roads around Snohomish County were slick.

Correction: An earlier version of this story, based on a KOMO TV report, incorrectly said the car had crossed the centerline and hit the pickup. According to the State Patrol, the pickup crossed the centerline and hit the car. The Associated Press story had been based on the KOMO report which KOMO later corrected.
