Female body washes ashore on Blake Island; identity not known

A female body was found on a Blake Island beach Tuesday afternoon after washing ashore, according to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

Someone walking on the beach on the southeast side of the island reported finding the body around 3 p.m., spokesman Scott Wilson said. The sheriff’s office responded and recovered the body, then turned it over to the coroner. The female’s identity and cause of death are not known, Wilson said.

The sheriff’s office is investigating.

Blake Island State Park is a 475-acre marine-camping park with five miles of saltwater beach shoreline. It is reachable only by tour boat or private boat.
