Friday Harbor man ID’d as pilot killed in California plane crash

PISMO BEACH, Calif.  — Authorities have identified a pilot who died when his small plane crashed into the ocean off of Central California.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office says investigators who found a wallet in the crash area believe 63-year-old David Casey of Friday Harbor was aboard the plane that went down Tuesday afternoon about a mile off of Oceano.

The sheriff’s office is still trying to determine whether there was a passenger aboard the plane.

Authorities at first said they had recovered human remains but now say they haven’t found any bodies and are still searching.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the plane was a built from a kit. There’s no word on where it took off or its destination.
