The identity was revealed Monday of the cyber-security software company that withdrew a century-long lease proposal for the disintegrating seminary building at Kenmore’s Saint Edward State Park last week.
Temporal Defense Systems, which has an office in Renton, started negotiating a long-term public-private partnership with Washington state parks in the fall. According to the company’s real-estate broker, Dan Mathews, an Eastside resident in charge of the company had a personal interest in saving the building, which the state parks cannot afford to renovate.
The company did not return calls for comment Monday afternoon. The Secretary of State’s office lists a Kirkland address for the company’s executives, including its president, Mark Tucker.
After several state employees signed a nondisclosure agreement with the company, the private parties involved discussed investing at least $40 million in renovations for the building so it could accommodate about 300 employees. Emails between state employees discussed taking the company’s broker for a tour with the representative of a “U.S. government contractor.”
Pressure from locals who wanted to know the name of the company prompted the parks department to release an unredacted nondisclosure agreement Monday. Washington State Parks had announced in early December that a software company wanted to lease the building and that the company needed to start occupying the building in early 2014 if the deal were to move forward.
When parks officials announced last week that they would release the documents, Temporal Defense Systems decided to end negotiations for the property.
No other private entity now has a proposal for occupying the property.
The last private company to explore the property, Oregon-based hotel and restaurant creator McMenamin’s, met objections from much of the surrounding community and decided instead to start a new hotel and restaurant in Bothell.
