Multiple lanes of northbound I-5 closed through Sunday

Multiple lanes of northbound Interstate 5 between the Interstate 90 interchange and Yesler Way will be closed through Sunday  for expansion-joint repairs, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). Lanes will reopen at 11 p.m. Sunday.

WSDOT is advising drivers to avoid traffic delays by taking alternate routes such as Highway 99 and Interstate 405, which could shave off at least 40 minutes of travel time, the department said.

Planned closures:

  • All weekend: Two of four lanes  until 11 p.m. Sunday.
  • Four hours tonight: Three lanes and the northbound I-5 ramp to Edgar Martinez Drive closed for four hours starting at 10 p.m. Friday.
  • Four hours Sunday night: Three lanes and the ramp to Edgar Martinez Drive will be closed again from 7 to 11 p.m. Sunday.

This is the second of nine weekends of downtown freeway construction through spring 2014, according to the state Department of Transportation.
