Police arrest armed felon at Space Needle fireworks show

Seattle police arrested a felon who was watching the New Year’s Eve fireworks show at Seattle’s Space Needle with a loaded handgun in his waistband.

A citizen in the crowd of revelers gathered outside the Seattle landmark near Fourth Avenue North and Denny Way reported the man to an officer shortly before midnight.

The officer watched the man from a distance while calling for back-up, according to police. Three officers took the 22-year-old into custody, and recovered the gun.

A records check indicated the suspect was a felon, police said.  He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of violation of the Uniform Firearms Act.
