A Capitol Hill pharmacy security officer was hospitalized Sunday after he was stabbed by a man who was trying to steal a Seattle Seahawks sweatshirt, according to police.
Seattle Police Detective Jeff Kappel said police arrested a 30-year-old man, who was booked into jail.
Police responded to a report of the assault around 3:45 p.m. after the security officer at the Rite Aid pharmacy on Broadway confronted a man who concealed the sweatshirt in his backpack and tried to walk out of the store, according to Kappel. The officer confronted the man outside the store, and the suspect responded by pulling out a large kitchen knife and stabbing the security officer in the head, and then cutting his hand, back and side, Kaeppel said.
The guard was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, the detective said.
During a search of the area, officers found the suspect hiding in a stairwell and recovered the knife and sweatshirt, Kappel said.
