Spokane Valley teacher who was removed is arrested

The Associated Press

SPOKANE — The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a substitute teacher who was removed from an elementary school classroom for unusual behavior on Thursday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office arrested the 46-year-old man on suspicion of assault and unlawful imprisonment at Trent Elementary School.

The Sheriff’s Office said Friday that at least three sixth-grade students told the principal the teacher had verbally and physically abused them. The principal also told investigators there were allegations the teacher smelled of alcohol while on school property.

The teacher was taken into custody at his home without incident Thursday evening.
