Tuesday Memo: Bertha update … Sherman sideshow … Girl in trunk

Some good news about Bertha: The giant tunneling machine could start drilling again soon. OK, let’s see if that happens.

There were two fatalities in recreational snow activities Saturday. We told you yesterday about the 14-year-old boy who died while snowboarding at Ski Bluewood in the far southeast corner of the state. Now a woman snowshoeing in Snohomish County has died.

As we inch closer to the Super Bowl, the attention the media is paying to Richard Sherman isn’t waning. It appears to be on the upswing. Sherman’s circus of controversy rolls into pregame spotlight

They had her in the trunk: Three teen boys have been busted in connection with the kidnapping yesterday of a 15-year-old girl. Authorities found her unharmed in the trunk of a car being driven on State Route 410. The girl, who apparently has some relationship with the car’s driver, had been kidnapped on her way to school.

Weather: Rain and showers over the next few days. Temperatures near 50. National Weather Service forecast
