1 dead in multiple car pile-up on I-5 in Clark Co.

The Associated Press

VANCOUVER, Wash. — One person is dead following a snow-related pile-up that involved around 15 cars and half a dozen tractor trailers on Interstate 5 in Clark County.

A storm has blanketed the Vancouver and Portland region with snow Thursday, snarling traffic throughout the region and causing dozens of car crashes.

The Columbian reports the massive pile-up happened around 10 a.m. near milepost 13.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Steve Schatzel says several people were trapped in the wreckage, and others were injured. One person suffered injuries described as critical and two others suffered serious injuries. Total numbers of people injured were not known Thursday afternoon.

Age, gender and cause of the fatality were not immediately available.
