Former leader at UW Bothell to run UW Tacoma as interim chancellor

Kenyon S. Chan, the former chancellor of the University of Washington Bothell, is stepping in to run the University of Washington Tacoma as its interim chancellor.

He replaces Debra Friedman, who died Jan. 26 of lung cancer.

Chan, who stepped down from the Bothell post last year, is expected to serve until a new chancellor is chosen. The process of picking a new permanent chancellor has not yet started.

Chan’s field is educational psychology, and his primary interest is the effects of race on the emotional development of children.
