A traffic accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Northgate has caused a seven-mile backup from Northgate all the way to Interstate 405, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The incident has made the Everett-to-Seattle commute more than an hour and a half.
The Transportation Department recommends taking Highway 99 to avoid the traffic jam, which at 8:30 a.m. was blocking three lanes.
