Friday Memo: Record cold … UW suspends QB … Winter Olympics begin

Get your mittens, it’s still cold today: Snow is causing school delays and closures in the South Sound area, but Portland and southeast Washington really got hit. Check your school at schoolreport.org.

Cold temperatures shattered records in Seattle this week, but the weather is expected to gradually warm up through the weekend. National Weather Service forecast

Not everyone is a Seahawks fan: Huskies quarterback Cyler Miles, receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow suspended for violation of team rules. Two players are being investigated by Seattle Police for an alleged assault near campus during a post-Super Bowl incident Sunday night, and a UW source identified the players as Miles and Stringfellow. No arrests have been made, according to King County Jail records.

Welcome, comrades: It’s time for the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Opening ceremonies kick off today what could be a very “interesting” international sporting event.
