JBLM soldier killed in military-shuttle crash on I-5 is ID’d

The Army soldier who died Thursday after a military shuttle bus crashed on southbound Interstate 5 in Lakewood has been identified as Pvt. Reymon B. Tolentino, 28, of Skokie, Ill.

Tolentino was on a bus headed to Joint Base Lewis-McChord from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport with soldiers who were returning from deployment in Afghanistan, according to the U.S. Army 7th Infantry Division. Tolentino had not been deployed but was helping with transportation.

Tolentino was a combat engineer and a member of the 22nd Engineer Clearance Company, 14th Eng. Battalion, 555th Eng. Brigade, 7th Infantry Division. He entered active-duty service on Jan. 3, 2013, after completing basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

His awards and achievements included the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terror Service Medal and the Army Service Ribbon.

The bus driver lost control and struck a light pole around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the State Patrol. Tolentino was taken to Tacoma General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Another soldier was seriously injured and four others were examined and released.

The soldier who was seriously injured is in stable condition.
