UPDATE: Major fire at La Conner marina controlled

UPDATED 6:28 p.m. | So far, there are no reports of injuries. The fire has been knocked down. Speculation on the number of boats involved ranges from 12 to 20.

UPDATED 5:55 p.m. | At least a dozen boats are involved, witnesses said.  The Fire is at Shelter Bay.

Five or six boats appear to be total losses, Dylan Furst, 22, of Bellingham said. Furst said he
could smell smoke while he was standing about 400 meters (about 440 yards)  away from the fire.

“It was just one big fire of boats,” Furst said. “They weren’t separated at all.”

UPDATED 5:50 p.m. | The Swinomish Yacht club has said via its Twitter page that fire boats are getting the fires under control. It says five boats have burned for sure, and possibly 10.

The club further reports that it looks as if fuel is burning in the water.

ORIGINAL POST | There is a major fire at the marina in La Conner, Skagit County. About half a dozen boats are ablaze and look to be a total loss.
