Medics with the Seattle Fire Department are on scene and treating the victim, police said. The extent of his injuries was not immediately known.
Police first heard about the shooting at 4:30 p.m. when a caller said they thought someone had been shot. Another person reported a man was on the sidewalk just north of the 4000 block of Rainier Avenue South.
Both lanes of southbound Rainier Avenue have been closed in that block and police are searching for a possible suspect vehicle described as a white Crown Victoria with tinted windows that “looked like a decommissioned police car,” Witt said.
