Southbound Interstate 5 will be reduced to one lane between the Washington State Convention Center and Interstate 90 from 9 tonight through 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The closure will allow crews to repair broken-down expansion joints. WSDOT says motorists should expect delays of 45-60 minutes. To avoid delays, WSDOT recommends drivers use Highway 99 or public transit.
At least one lane of southbound I-5 through the construction zone will remain open at all times. Access to and from I-90, Airport Way South, Fourth Avenue South and South Dearborn Street will remain open.
The I-5 express lanes will operate in the southbound direction from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday to alleviate backups and provide drivers with more ramps into downtown Seattle.
