Tuesday Memo: Amazon Prime fees … Winter storms aplenty … Lots of pet adoptions

Amazon Prime (or is it?): The online retailer has said it’s considering raising membership fees for its Prime free-shipping service and there’s been speculations that customers would walk away from the service.  But that didn’t happen when Costco raised rates, says an analyst, and it might not happen to Amazon. Do you have a Prime account? Will  you keep it if Amazon increases the membership fee? Vote in our poll.

Weather: Ready for some more storms?  The National Weather Service says a couple of them are on their way, bringing steady rain at times down here and heavy snowfall in the mountain passes where a winter storm warning is in effect. Driving will be difficult. Some area rivers could flood, too. One storm is tonight, the other is Wednesday night and Thursday. Time to hunker down? National Weather Service forecast

And there will be mudslides. Got a few of them already. There’s no Seattle-Everett passenger-train service on Sounder or Amtrak until early Wednesday due to mudslides at Seattle’s Golden Gardens Park on Sunday and in Edmonds on Monday.

Replacing license plates: State law says you must replace your license plates every seven years. The State Senate has passed a bill that says plates wouldn’t have to be replaced until a vehicle changes owners. Do prison inmates still make license plates? How much does that cost?

If you’re a pet lover, this is always good news: Record number of animals adopted in 2013.

Gas prices:  AAA says the average price of a gallon of gasoline in Washington is $3.35.  Some prices for metro areas from Tuesday’s AAA survey: Bellingham $3.43, Bremerton $3.35, Seattle-Bellevue-Everett $3.41, Tacoma $3.36, Olympia $3.35, Vancouver $3.28, Yakima $3.30, Tri-Cities $3.22, Spokane $3.17.
