Stevens Pass reopens after avalanche closure

UPDATE, 3:56 p.m. | Stevens Pass has reopened in both directions, according to WSDOT.

ORIGINAL POST | Highway 2 going across Stevens Pass is closed this morning after an avalanche buried the roadway.

The avalanche went across all four lanes of the road. The closure extends from milepost 54 to milepost 64.5, according to the state Department of Transportation Twitter feed.

Expect the roadway to be shut down for at least the next four hours, the State Patrol said.

The city of Auburn reported that a landslide had closed the West Valley Highway from 15th Street Northwest to 37th Street Northwest. When the road would open is not known.
