Seattle police say a burglar broke into a Wedgwood church over the weekend, vandalized property and — in a possible attempt to make amends –lit a few candles before fleeing.
The break-in at Our Lady of the Lake church happened sometime between 7:15 p.m. Friday and 10:15 a.m. Saturday, when an employee discovered the damage, police said.
The burglar smashed a 60-inch flat screen TV and a candle holder, knocked over trash bins and a flag, stole a microphone at the church in the 8900 block of 35th Avenue Northeast. He also left behind several burning candles.
Responding officers were unable to find any sign of forced entry. Church staff said it was possible someone had hidden in the church following services and waited for everyone to leave the building, police said.
