Bus fire causes heavy traffic on northbound I-5 near Lynnwood

UPDATE, 8:44 p.m. | The 21 occupants of the charter bus were uninjured, WSP said.

Northbound I-5 traffic is backed up two miles, according to WSDOT. Firefighters said the scene should be clear by 9:10 p.m.

ORIGINAL POST | A bus fire on northbound Interstate 5 at 196th Street in Lynnwood temporarily shut down all northbound lanes Tuesday evening, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The left two lanes are now open but traffic is still congested, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The charter bus was fully engulfed in flames, WSP said. The driver was not injured but the condition of the passengers is not known.
