Construction expected to snarl Seattle traffic this weekend

This weekend will bring more frustration for Seattle drivers as Washington State Department of Transportation crews close all but one of the northbound collector-distributor lanes that merge traffic from Interstate 90 onto Interstate 5 and downtown freeway ramps. The ramp from South Dearborn Street to northbound I-5 will also close.

It will be a partial closure from I-90 to Madison Street during most of the time between 10 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, WSDOT says, but from midnight to 4 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, all northbound collector-distributor lanes will close.

The closures are part of WSDOT’s continuing efforts to replace damaged expansion joints.

Expect a busy weekend in Seattle with the Sounders FC opener, the Seattle Kennel Club Dog Show and the Pac-12 Women’s Basketball Tournament all bringing extra traffic to town. Drivers should prepare for delays, WSDOT says.
