Four people were able to escape a fire in Edmonds this morning.

Fire crews were called to a building at 23221 Edmonds Way at 3:50 a.m. for a report of “visible flames,” said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1. The building is home to Mike’s Deli-Mart, a barber shop and an apartment above the deli.

Four adults and several pets living in the apartment were able to escape, Hynes said.

“The fire was contained to the back portion of the building. It [the fire] also got into the attic space,” Hynes said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
