Friday Memo: The littlest Zag … helicopter crash probe … weekend road alerts

friWeather21Bulldogs play today: Gonzaga’s David Stockton isn’t big, but he’s “absolutely fearless,” according to his coach. Overlooked because of his size, Stockton was a walk-on at Gonzaga, where he showed his grit and skill. It also never hurts to have an NBA all-star father. “The biggest part of my growth as a player was just watching him,” David Stockton says about his father, John Stockton. The Zags go up against Oklahoma State in the NCAA Tournament this afternoon at 1:40 on TNT.

Crash investigation: NTSB investigators will look at whether fatigue could have played a role in Tuesday morning’s helicopter crash. Officials want to understand how pilot Gary Pfitzner, who died in the crash, balanced his two jobs — early mornings in the helicopter followed by work as a technical analyst at Boeing. Examination of a pilot’s rest periods before a crash is a standard part of any such inquiry, an NTSB official said.

Use your ninja driving skills: If you’re headed anywhere beyond your street this weekend, you might want to check for road closures. The Alaskan Way Viaduct will be closed all day Saturday from 4:30 a.m.  to 7 p.m. so crews can study cracks in the viaduct’s columns and girders. Parts of I-405 in Bellevue also will be closed.

Weather: It’s the first  full day of spring, but the temps are chilly this morning. Looks like we will see a little sunshine today, but Sunday is looking to be the better choice for the weekend. National Weather Service forecast
