UPDATE, Sunday, 2:25 p.m. | The woman who jumped or fell from the overpass is alive and was taken to Harborview Medical Center, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Earlier, the Seattle Police Department gave inaccurate information about her condition.
UPDATE, Sunday, 1:23 p.m. | Washington State Department of Transportation reports on Twitter that the two left lanes of SB I-5 at Michigan are back open. Backup is about 3 miles.
ORIGINAL POST | All southbound lanes of I-5 at Michigan Street been closed except the HOV lane as police investigate an apparent attempted suicide.
Someone jumped from the Michigan Street overpass about 12:40 p.m., said Seattle Police spokesman Mark Jamieson.
Washington State Patrol troopers also are at the scene. The state Department of Transportation has asked southbound drivers to divert to Highway 99.
