Kirkland man arrested in fatal hit & run incident

A Kirkland man has been arrested in connection with the hit and run death of a woman in Kenmore early Friday.

The man, 53,  is being held on $200,000 bail for investigation of felony hit and run.

The woman was struck about 7 a.m. while she was crossing Juanita Drive Northeast in an uncontrolled crosswalk at the intersection of Northeast 160th Street and Juanita Drive Northeast, according to the King County prosecutor’s office.

She was crossing from east to west, when she was struck by a vehicle going south. The driver stopped briefly, then drove on, a witness told the King County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where she later died.

Sheriff detectives were called later by Kirkland police who said they had received a call from a man who said he had been involved in a hit and run. Detectives went to the man’s apartment in the 14100 block of Juanita Drive Northeast and determined he had been involved in the accident.

The Sheriff’s Office doesn’t believe alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident.
