Man hit crossing Highway 99 in Lynnwood

A man is being treated for life-threatening head injuries and broken legs, after he tried to run across Highway 99 and was hit by a minivan.

The crash happened just before 7 p.m. a few blocks south of 148th Street Southwest, in Lynnwood.  The man was moving from east to west. He made it across two lanes but was hit in the left northbound lane, said Trooper Mark Francis of the Washington State Patrol.

He was taken, unconscious, to Harborview Medical Center, said Francis. Traffic was detoured into only one northbound lane Sunday night as the investigation continued. The female driver of the minivan, accompanied by one passenger, didn’t appear to be intoxicated, the WSP said.

The pedestrian was wearing a dark coat and tan pants, in rainy weather at dusk, Francis said.
