Pedestrian killed, suspect in custody in Kenmore hit and run

A woman who was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Kenmore died this morning at Harborview Medical Center.

The woman, who appeared to be in her 20s, was hit by a southbound truck as she attempted to cross Juanita Drive Northeast near the intersection at Northeast 160th just after 7 a.m., said Sgt. Cindi West of the King County Sheriff’s Office.

According to witnesses, the driver of the truck paused briefly, then drove away.

A 53-year-old Kirkland man later called police to say he thought he had hit something, West said. He was taken into custody on suspicion of felony hit and run.
