UPDATE 5:55 p.m.: Raymond Farbarik, the Seattle man who lost control and collided with a tree while skiing at the Mission Ridge ski area Friday, has died, according to The Wenatchee World.
WENATCHEE — The Chelan County sheriff says a 47-year-old Seattle skier was critically injured at the Mission Ridge ski area near Wenatchee when he apparently lost a ski, traveled off the ski run and hit a tree.
Sheriff Brian Burnett said the ski patrol responded immediately Friday morning and began treating Raymond Farbarik, who was described as unconscious and unresponsive.
Farbarik was taken first to a Wenatchee hospital, then airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Harborview spokeswoman Susan Gregg said late Friday afternoon that the man was in critical condition and was headed to the intensive care unit.
The sheriff said the man had been skiing the “Kiwa” run when witnesses say a ski detached from his boot. He was descending a straight portion of the run.
