Police: Heavy rainfall thwarted arson at construction site

Investigators believe the weekend’s heavy rainfall prevented an arson at a Central District construction site, according to the Seattle Police Department.

Officers responded to a development near 21st Avenue East and East Fir Street after a work crew found two Molotov cocktails had been thrown through the window of a home under construction. Only one broke and ignited, leaving scorch marks on the floor, but the rain had soaked the construction site so the fire didn’t spread.

The arson attempt occurred between 5 p.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday, investigators said.
