Big companies that get their money from Wall Street have purchased thousands of single-family homes — including homes in Seattle — and are offering them as rentals. They’re elbowing out homeowners at a time when the housing market is tight. Absentee landlord comes to mind, no?
Is Seattle becoming Disneyland? Well, not really, says columnist Danny Westneat, but he’s worried that ideas popping up for a revamped Seattle might turn the gritty city into something vastly different. For example, sketches of some proposals, he says, look like a suburban shopping mall.
