Truck blocking Montlake ramp caused the 8-mile backup on I-5 this morning

A large truck that blocked the Montlake on ramp off eastbound Highway 520, was to blame for long backup in the area this morning.

Mike Allende, spokesman for the State Department of Transportation, said a large work truck hit a barrier around 7:45 a.m. and blocked the Montlake exit.

“The State Patrol ended up closing the ramp,” he said. “The backup went onto I-5 northbound about eight miles.”

One lane of the ramp was reopened around 8:15, he said.
