News anchor Dan Lewis is stepping down after 27 years at KOMO, the veteran newsman announced to staff on Wednesday.

Television news “has been my passion for four decades,” Lewis said in a post on the KOMO website. “To this day I love my job but I just feel like I need a break from the news.”

According to KOMO, Lewis came to Seattle from Washington, D.C., in summer 1987. He was originally paired on the anchor desk with Jim Harriott and Kerry Brock. One year later, Kathi Goertzen took the seat next to him. and the rest is history. Lewis and Goertzen became one of the longest-running anchor teams in the country, delivering the evening news at KOMO for nearly 25 years.
