Edmonds police ask public’s help in ID’ing sexual-assault suspect

The Edmonds Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a man suspected of attempting to rob and sexually assault a woman after she got off the bus in the Lake Ballinger neighborhood early Thursday evening.

The woman, an exchange student at Edmonds Community College, had just gotten off a Community Transit bus and was walking home when she was attacked at 75th Avenue West and 230th Street Southwest, police said. Two people heard the victim’s cries for help and saw a male running away. He ran west on 230th Street Southwest, then north along 76th Avenue West and got into a white van, which left the area on southbound Highway 99.

The victim and witnesses described the suspect as a 35- to 40-year-old white male, 5-foot-6 to 6 feet tall, 180 pounds and clean-shaven. He was wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt, a blue baseball cap and dark casual pants. The vehicle he was seen getting into was a white Chevrolet van with a ladder rack, but no ladder, on top and with windows on the side.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Edmonds Police Department at 425-771-0212.
