Girl dies after being struck by pickup in Northgate

A 17-year-old girl was killed this morning when she was struck by a pickup as she crossed Fifth Avenue Northeast at Northeast 115th Street in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood, according to Seattle police.

The girl was walking west around 8:20 a.m. when she was hit by a green Ford Ranger that was traveling south on Fifth Avenue Northeast, Detective Mark Jamieson wrote in a post in the department’s online blotter. She died at the scene.

The driver of the pickup was evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert officer and was found not to be impaired.

The post, which does not indicate if the driver was male or female, says “the driver was released from the scene pending further investigation.”

Detectives from the department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating.
