Girl killed in Northgate accident identified

The 17-year-old girl who was killed Monday morning when she was struck by a pickup in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood was identified by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office as Sandhya Khadka.

The medical examiner’s office said Khadka died of brain injuries. Her death was ruled an accident.

Seattle police say the girl was crossing Fifth Avenue Northeast at Northeast 115th Street around 8:20 a.m. when she was hit by a green Ford Ranger that was traveling south on Fifth Avenue Northeast. She died at the scene, police said.

The driver of the pickup was evaluated by police, found not to be impaired and released rom the scene pending further investigation, police said.

Detectives from the department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Squad are investigating the fatal accident.
