Man shot during robbery attempt in Central District

Seattle police say a 36-year-old man was shot and wounded during an attempted robbery early this morning in the Central District.

The victim and his girlfriend were walking through an alley in the 2500 block of East Columbia Street shortly before 1 a.m. when they noticed they were being followed by three men, police said.

One of the three men approached the couple and pointed a gun at the victim’s 36-year-old girlfriend. The woman ran off while her boyfriend began struggling with the armed man, police said.

During the struggle the victim was shot once in the chest. Police arrived a short time later but couldn’t locate the three men.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.
