Saturday Memo: Tunnel costs rising … How fair is the pot lottery?… Sounders play at home

sat_weatherWeather: High 50s, with showers coming this afternoon and lasting into the night. National Weather Service forecast

Tunnel contractors seek more state money: The contractor of the stalled Highway 99 tunnel project has requested $62.6 million in change orders on top of a $125 million filing related to repairing the tunnel-boring machine. Documents obtained by The Seattle Times through a public-records request show an itemized list of what Seattle Tunnel Partners is seeking, because of what they say are unexpected issues with the project. Will taxpayers be on the hook? How much more might the contractors ask for? Read today’s story by reporters Mike Baker and Mike Lindblom.

Is the lottery system working for pot-store applicants? Several people who submitted applications to legally sell pot say the state’s system for qualifying applicants is flawed by computer glitches, mistaken decisions and an unfair appeals process.

Sounders try for a win at home: The Sounders are home today, playing at 1 p.m. against the Colorado Rapids. Seattle has lost two straight at CenturyLink Field and is looking to avoid its first three-game home losing streak as an MLS franchise. After exciting play on the road, and with Clint Dempsey on a roll, there’s reason to hope for a turnaround here. Before you watch the game on Channel 13, read Joshua Mayers’ preview.
