1 killed in Everett apartment fire

Everett police are investigating a fire that killed one person and left several people homeless early this morning.

Authorities were called to the Candlewood Apartments, in the 8500 block of 10th Avenue West, around 2:45 a.m. for a report of breaking glass. When police arrived they saw smoke and flames coming from the “A” building, said Everett police spokesman Aaron Snell.

The building was evacuated and the fire was put out. Fire crews found one person dead inside the building. The Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the person’s name, as well as their cause of death.

Two people were taken to Providence Medical Center Everett with non-life threatening injuries.

“Dozens of residents were displaced and will not be able to return until the building has been assessed for safety,” Snell wrote in a news release.
