55-year-old cat burglar nabbed in Seattle

Seattle police arrested a suspected burglar Sunday morning after the 55-year-old man climbed down from the third story of an apartment in the Maple Leaf neighborhood.

Just before dawn, a resident of the apartments in the 1900 block of Northeast 85th Street called 911 to report a man climbing up her balcony to the third floor apartment above. When officers arrived they saw the suspect climbing down from the third floor.

The suspect jumped to the ground from the second story and ran, eluding officers. Reinforcements arrived and spotted the man running through neighborhood yards before they caught him.

Officers determined that the suspect entered a third-floor apartment though an unlocked sliding glass door. But they could not find the backpack they saw him wearing when he climbed down.

It’s unclear, pending further investigation, if anything was taken from the apartment, according to police. The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
