Dog rescued from Kennewick ravine

The Tri-City Herald

Two emergency responders using ropes and harnesses were lowered into a ravine to rescue a dog south of Kennewick.

Firefighters from Benton Fire District 1 and the Kennewick Fire Department were called out early Saturday to help the dog from a washed out area behind the Zintel Canyon Dam, said Capt. Devin Helland with the fire district.

The dog fell into the washout while on a hike with its owner behind the Washington State Patrol office off Highway 395, Helland said.

“The man was unable to get the dog out and ran up to our station. That was early, 7 or 8 a.m. Our guys investigated and called in Kennewick’s rescue unit,” he said.

The rescue operation took about an hour, Helland said.
