Friday Memo: Hwy. 20 crash … canine reunion … rain and traffic for holiday

Deadly crash: The Washington State Patrol is reporting a deadly crash on Highway 20 near Sedro-Woolley. There are two confirmed dead and 3 injured, according to tweets from Trooper Mark Francis. Two of the people were airlifted with life-threatening injuries. Highway 20 is closed and will remain closed for at least  two to three hours, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

A boy and his dog: Thor, a retired explosives-detection dog, arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Thursday to be reunited with the Marine he first trained and served with in Afghanistan. Marine Corps veteran Deano Miller, of Tacoma, is adopting the 7-year-old Labrador. Check out the photos of the reunion and try not to tear up. On second thought … go ahead and tear up. Here’s the story.

Get your shower cap: Looks like we’re in for rain and showers (what’s really the difference?) for Memorial Day weekend in the Puget Sound area, according to the National Weather Service. At least the temperatures will be mild with highs in the upper- to mid-60s. (And yes, there IS a difference between rain and showers. “Rain is steady and continuous, showers start and stop abruptly and can vary in intensity,” according to the National Weather Service.)

Speaking of Memorial Day weekend: The WSDOT is predicting heavy traffic on all the major routes out of Seattle. And if you think you’re safe from the traffic gremlins because you’re staying in town, you’re not. An estimated 25,000 people per day will be attending the Northwest Folklife Festival at Seattle Center.
