Update at 2:36 p.m.: Seattle police say the man who jumped into Elliott Bay had been at Harborview Medical Center earlier in the day for a medical evaluation. He fled from the facility, took off his clothes and ran downhill toward the water, police said.
Original post: A naked man was pulled out of Elliott Bay this morning after he jumped in the water while suffering some sort of “behavioral crisis,” Seattle police said.
Shortly before 10 a.m., several people called 911 to report a naked man running west on Cherry Street, according to Seattle police spokeswoman Renee Witt. The man ran into the Polson Building near Columbia Street, where police were able to talk him down a bit and get a handcuff on one of his wrists, she said.
However, the naked man took off again, running toward the ferry terminal at Colman Dock, Witt said. He then dived into the water, climbed partially out and then dived in again, she said.
Police and firefighters were able to get the man out of the water. Police said he was taken to a hospital for evaluation.
