Police report increase in locker thefts at Eastside gyms

Police are warning gym customers about a spike in locker thefts reported in Eastside gyms over the past few weeks.

Gyms in Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland and Redmond have all reported similar incidents of thieves breaking into lockers and then taking cash. The padlock or combination locks are often placed back on the locker afterward, so some people don’t realize right away that they have been robbed.

The thefts have been reported in several different gym franchises. Issaquah, Kirkland and Redmond police have open and active investigations.

Customers are asked to leave valuables in their cars or at home, use theft-resistant day lockers or puck-style locks, and report all suspicious activity to staff or by calling 911 or both.
