Seattle officer collides with middle school student during foot chase

A Seattle police officer collided with a middle school student while running after a suspected car thief this afternoon, police said.

The suspected thief was spotted in a stolen Honda Civic in the 9000 block of Aurora Avenue North around 1:20 p.m., police said. The man drove off, but ditched the car near North 90th Street and Stone Avenue North.

Police chased the suspect as he ran toward Wilson Pacific Middle School. It was at the school that an officer collided with a student, police said.

Officers were able to catch the suspect.

Seattle Fire Department medics evaluated the girl, who was later released to her parents.

The suspect was booked into King County Jail for investigation of auto theft.
